First-of-its-kind conference looks to inspire up-and-coming entrepreneurs
Business lessons were abundant at the Kern High School District’s first all-day business conference for students, the Youth Entrepreneurship Education Summit. Hundreds of seventh- to 12th-graders gathered Friday at the district’s Entrepreneurship Resource Center in the Career Technical Education Center, where they enjoyed opportunities to learn from local professionals on topics like human resources, marketing and finance.

'We're in it for them to win it': Local business community spurs students to national prominence
This year, teams from three Bakersfield high schools placed top-five nationally in the most exalted competition: business planning. A team from Ridgeview High took fourth; fifth went to a Centennial High VE business — out of nearly 500 teams from across the country.

CTEC hosts Virtual Enterprise State Competition
Virtual Enterprise students throughout the state visited CTEC on January 27 and 28 to attend the first in-person Virtual Enterprise State Competition in California in two years.

On Monday, November 8, 2021 CTEC hosted a live mini trade show and business advising sessions with thirteen local high schools that have Virtual Enterprise teams competing.

Virtual Enterprise Student Training Day
The KHSD runs a student training day for Virtual Enterprise students where they learn about multiple business topics in accounting, human resources, creating a business plan, marketing, and more.

Ms. Angel Cottrell joined the Kern High School District as Program Manager of the KHSD ROC & CTEC Entrepreneurship Resource Centers (ERC). The KHSD ROC & CTEC ERC are designed to support our youth in developing entrepreneurial and intrapreneurial mindsets and thinking.
